Week 4: Memory Work

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

Week 4: The Boy Jesus in the Temple
Assign on October 1, 2017 & Recite on October 8, 2017

PreK – K #112 Luke 11:28 Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it.
Grade 1-4 #170 Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Grade 1-2 3rd Commandment – Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
Grade 3-4 3rd commandment – Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but regard it as holy, and gladly hear and learn it.

Week 4: The Baptism and Temptation of Jesus; The Marriage in Cana
Assign on October 1, 2017 & Recite on October 8, 2017

Grade 5-8 #58. John 1:29  Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world.
Grade 5-8 #104. Galatians 3:26-27 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.
Grade 5-8 3rd Article – I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him. But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead, and he will give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.  This is most certainly true.

Recitation and Song for October 29, 2017

Grades 5-6: Sola Scriptura! Sola Gratia! Sola Fidei! The Scriptures alone – the only foundation of Christian faith and belief; Grace alone – God’s undeserved love – the only source of God’s salvation; Faith Alone – The only way to receive Christ’s blessings of forgiveness and eternal life.

Grades 7-8: The Bible tells us – “Remember those who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:7-8) We remember and give thanks for Martin Luther and all the faithful down through the ages who have spoken the Word of God to us. Perhaps Luther’s greatest hymn of Reformation is based on Psalm 46:

All Sunday school children: “God is our refuge and Strength, a very present Help in trouble; Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the depth of the sea…. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our Refuge.”… “If God be for us, who can be against us.”
