A Mighty Fortress is Our God

Week 6: The Temptation
Assign on October 15, 2017 & Recite on October 22, 2017

PreK – K #138a. Matthew 26:41- Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
Grade 1-4 #64. Hebrews 4:15 – We have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet was without sin.
Grade 1-2

Grade 3-4

6th Petition – And lead us not into temptation.
Grade 3-4 6th Petition – What does this mean? God surely tempts no one to sin, but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us or lead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins; and though we are tempted by them, we pray that we may overcome and win the victory.

Week 6: Stilling the Storm, Dealing, Healing the Paralytic; The Daughter of Jairus and the Young Man of Nain
Assign on October 15, 2017 & Recite on October 22, 2017

Grade 5-8 #21. Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.
Grade 5-8 #18. Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
Grade 5-8 1st Article – I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. What does this mean?

I believe that God made me and every creature, and that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all that I need to keep my body and life, and by defending me against all danger and guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does only because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey him. This is most certainly true.

Recitation and Song for October 29, 2017

Grades 5-6: Sola Scriptura! Sola Gratia! Sola Fidei! The Scriptures alone – the only foundation of Christian faith and belief; Grace alone – God’s undeserved love – the only source of God’s salvation; Faith Alone – The only way to receive Christ’s blessings of forgiveness and eternal life.

Grades 7-8: The Bible tells us – “Remember those who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:7-8) We remember and give thanks for Martin Luther and all the faithful down through the ages who have spoken the Word of God to us. Perhaps Luther’s greatest hymn of Reformation is based on Psalm 46:

All Sunday school children: “God is our refuge and Strength, a very present Help in trouble; Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the depth of the sea…. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our Refuge.”… “If God be for us, who can be against us.”
